Summary:  This was their journey:  Stop circling Mt. Seir.  Turn northward, Get over the brook Zered.  Pass over through Ar. Pass over the river Arnon.  Pass over the Jordan into the Promised Land.

Vs. 1:         Our journey.  Our life here on earth is a journey.  Sometimes it is a real trip.

Vs. 3:         You have compassed this mountain (Mt. Seir) long enough.  Seir means “rough  God says, “You have been circling Mt. Rough long enough  You have been circling your hurts, pains, regrets, failures, and setbacks long enough.

Vs. 3:         Turn northward.  It is time for a new direction.  Turn to God.  Turn to righteousness.  Turn to the House of God.  Turn to faithfulness.  Head north.

Vs. 13:       Rise up and get over (it) the brook Zered.  Three powerful words.  Get over it!  Zered means “to be exuberant in growth  When you leave the mountain of rough times, hurts and setbacks behind and get over it, then you can be exuberant in growth.

Vs. 14:       And the space, in which we came from Kadeshbarnea until we were come over the brook Zered, was 38 years.  Kadeshbarnea means “desert of a fugitive”.  A fugitive is someone that is “on the run  When we were not living for God, we are without a home, wandering, we are on the run.  When we cross over the brook and begin to live for God, we can be exuberant in growth.  (See John 5:1-9 for a man who was in his condition for 38 years. With the help of Jesus, he stopped circling Mt. Rough, made a turn northward, rose up and got over it!)

Vs. 18:       You are to pass over through Ar.  Ar means “a place where your eyes are opened  When you begin living for God, your eyes are opened.  You see God, the world and yourself in a different way.  You see God’s glory and miracles.

Vs. 24:       Rise up, take your journey (don’t let your journey take you), and pass over the river Arnon.  Arnon means “shout for joy  Make praise a part of your life.

Vs. 29:       Until I shall pass over Jordan into the (promised) land.  Jordan means “descend  We can never cross over Jordan into the Promised Land until we descend or humble our self.  We must say, not my will, not my way, but God’s will and God’s way.

Vs. 36:       There was not one city too strong for us; the Lord our God delivered all unto us.  You can win.  You can live for God.  You can make it!

This was the journey into the Promised Land.  This is our journey to heaven.
