Title: The Humpty Dumpty Syndrome

Key Scriptures:  2 Kings Chapter 7

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate:  and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king's horses,
And all the king's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again

I imagine Humpty has a great view from up there. He felt secure because of the wall upon which he sat. One day, something distracted him. That is satan’s weapon of mass destruction. He simply wants to distract us from God. That’s what he did to Samson, Judas, and Demas; something caused him to have a great fall. Was it a broken relationship, health problems, financial situations? We are not sure. We just know the fall was great. Humpty found out that no one and nothing in this world could help him when he fell to pieces. His resume and bank account could not help him.

As the four lepers sat there that day, they knew their lives were shattered. They also understood there was no cure and that no one could help them.

The enemy of your soul wants you to just sit there. His desire for you is that you will sit there in self-pity. Often in our lives, we must make that decision again. Will I sit here and allow this to destroy me or will I press on and give God all that I have? The Humpty Dumpty Syndrome began when he just sat there.

Matthew 11:12 - And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

THE NAME OF THE LORD IS A STRONG TOWER; THE RIGHTEOUS RUNNETH INTO IT, AND IS SAFE.  (PROVERBS 18.10)   Notice the righteous don’t just sit there and feel hopeless. They get up and run to the tower. Don’t run from God, run to Him.

The lepers decided they would not choose to just sit there and die helpless victims.  They decided they would at least die fighting.  They decided they had nothing to lose by going into the gate and seeing if there was food in the camp.  They decided they would not just sit there and die, they would get up and try.  Their efforts were rewarded with a miracle from God that drove out the enemy and provided them with plenty of food and riches.

The Humpty Dumpty Syndrome is to just sit there and die. This syndrome says , when your life is in pieces, give up because there is no help. Understand this today, “With God, all things are possible!” It may appear impossible to you, but you can give it to God and allow Him to show you how real He is!

I have seen many dope dealers in our city. God has called us to be hope dealers.

Max Cleland is a Vietnam veteran that lost both of his legs and his right arm in Vietnam.  In his condition he decided he would not just become a victim and die.  He decided to give it all he had.  He said, (1) I will make something out of my life and (2) I’ve lost a lot, but I have a lot left.  He went on to be elected a Senator of the United States.

We often hear about Jonah and the whale, but what about the whale in Jonah?  What about the giant living inside of this one human being?  One of the greatest revivals in history came out of one of the worst preachers in history.  (He didn’t want to preach.  He didn’t want to be there.  He got mad when they repented and prayed!  Would you want Jonah to be your pastor?)  If you and God will get together – there is a whale in you!  Don’t be a victim.  Rise up and be a victor.

God desires to meet your Spiritual, emotional, and physical needs.  He will if you look to Him. There were three items inside of the Ark of the Covenant. (1) Aaron’s rod that budded (Spiritual), (2) The Ten Commandments (Emotional), and (3) Manna (Physical).

What would have happened to blind Bartimaeus if he would have sat there and felt like there was no hope or help? He would have lived and died a blind person and a beggar.  With God we can be bigger than our circumstances.

I am a soldier in the Army of My God.
I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed.

The die has been cast.

I have stepped over the line.

The decision has been made.

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.

I won’t look back, let up, slow down or back down.

My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure.

I am finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, chintzy giving, and dwarfed goals.

I cannot be bought, compromised, deterred, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed.

I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable.

I am a soldier.
I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up, pumped up, picked up, or pepped up.

I am a soldier.
I am not a wimp.
I am a soldier.
No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy to get to church.

I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to in order to serve Him.
I am committed!

I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.

When Jesus called me into this Army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still end up ahead. I will win.
Devils cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me,
Hell cannot handle me!

Death cannot destroy me.

I will not give up.

I will not turn around.

I am a soldier.

If your hopes and dreams have been shattered, don’t sit there and die emotionally and spiritually. Rise up!

Often people miss church because they need a miracle.  Let me say that again… People miss church because they need a miracle.  That is like missing your dentist appointment because you have a toothache.  That is like missing your doctor’s appointment because you are sick.  If you need a miracle, get to church.  Go to the only One that can give you one.  Come on Humpty, there is hope. God will take the pieces and make something beautiful out of them. Don’t just sit there!

The story of Humpty Dumpty is typical of our generation today. Notice Humpty Dumpty sought help from the king’s horses and the king’s men. Why didn’t he seek help from the King? The King can help! The King of Kings can put the broken pieces of your life together if you will give Him all the pieces.
