Genesis 50:24-26

And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which He sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob… And ye shall carry my bones from hence. So Joseph died.

Exodus 13:18-19

But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea… And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him.

Getting the skeletons out of your closet” is a phrase that’s been around since the 1800s. It is the act of hiding something. It is typically spoken during a political campaign as parties fear the media will discover a skeleton in their candidate’s closet.

Joshua chapter 7 discusses the story of Achan. He hid illicit goods in his tent to the downfall of the whole nation. This wrong destroyed him and his family.

We see the pain that sin cause everyday in the headlines. The world often talks about the high cost of living, but what about the high cost of low living?

Moses literally had a skeleton in his closet. It was the bones of Joseph, Joseph believed the promise of God that they would one day step foot in the Promised Land. He said, “take my bones with you. I’m going too.”

The skeleton Moses had in his closet represented the promises of God. On Passover night, the skeleton was with him. Through the Red Sea miracle, the skeleton was with him.

Wouldn’t today be a great day to get the skeletons out of our closet? Get rid of everything that does not belong. Get rid of everything that can destroy us. Get out the promises of God and apply them to our lives!

The scriptures tell us about another skeleton in another closet.

II Kings 13:21

And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that behold… They cast the man into the sepulcher of Elisha, and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet.

This dead man came back alive when he touched the skeleton of Elisha. This skeleton represents miracles. Wouldn’t today be a beautiful day to get the skeleton of miracles out from hiding?

God is ready to show you His glory. He is ready to demonstrate His power and might to you. He is ready to show you His promises are true and His miracles are real. Are you ready?

Get the skeletons out of your closet!
